Thread: Standing Mirror

    Standing Mirror

This turning was inspired by Ralph Wilkes. Made from walnut with a 6in mirror and beveled 1/2in outside. The stands base is 6in round and dished out to hold small items like ear rings ect. Mirror can pivot 360 degrees by wooden turned pins. The finished with 4 coats on lacquer then buffed. Made for my wife as a Christmas gift.

  2. Jeff,

That is a great project. You did very well in executing the turning and the joinery. Very pretty.........and I would say it will be a definite hit with the ladies!

Excellent job on your mirror Jeff, has a very nice appeal to it. Looks like something I would like to make my girlfriend or daughter.

Jeff - very classy looking mirror! Nice detail work! Am curious as to what you used to glue in the glass mirror? Have turned a few hand mirrors and was always concerned that the movement of the wood would break a hard glue.

Mirror mastic adhesive is best, and it will not harm the mirror backing. You can find it at hardware stores, and glass companies.

The adhesive I used is Quick Grip found at hobby lobby. I been using Quick Grip on my WineO's glasses for over a year. its a silicone base adhesive which seem to let the wood flex well. This is the first time using it on a mirror, I cant tell yet if it will damage the mirror backing guess time will tell.

Oh ya this did score me brownie points with the wife..lol

Jeff, this is really nice. I like the concept of a fully turned project that has this many parts. Great job. I will be filing this away for a possible copy later!
