I have mastercam nc files and want to know the ins and outs of doing this. I assume it will have to be a metric file.

Will not work. I use MasterCam for my CNC and the nc code is the XYZ coordinates along with tool changer, coolant pump etc.. information. Looking at a piece of .nc code you will see the feed & speed info along with tool used, then XYZ coordinates followed by next steps coordinates.
Instead use MasterCam to export a plt or similar file and import that into laserCut.
The dealer told me the laser ignores that stuff. I wonder if it did work, would you have to use the speed and power on the machine.
