More on riser blocks........

As posted earlier in the week, I am nearing the end of my overhaul of my "old" (pre-1990)... "imported" bandsaw. It has always worked well for me, but there's one glitch: it takes 92-1/2" blades, making me have to search for suppliers or have them welded up for me. I was tempted to have a 1/2" riser made out of steel plate to allow the use of 93-1/2" blades, which are abundant. Anyone out there think this is a good idea, or should I just live with the "short"comings??? Thanks, Butch

If you are buying prepacked blades you are paying too much! Get them welded to spec even if you have a standard size. Local industrial supplies and tons of online fronts for "somebody's" local supply can take care of you. I have good luck with spectrumsupply.com they sell Lenox bands which I rate as one if not the best overall line.

Butch, where I used to work, we had an old Delta 14" cast iron bandsaw that had a 1" riser. it was a shop made piece, and Im not sure what it was made for, but it can be dome without too much effort. HTH

I don't see much downside....

If you like the saw, and have access to somebody who can do a reasonable job with the riser, [i]at a reasonable [price], then ... sure.

Have you thought about a six and one-half inch riser block, though -- get you up into Big Boy Resaw Territory ?
