    Jet sale..?

I was wondering if anyone has a tip on any Jet tool sale in the coming weeks. I am looking for a Jet 1624EVS lathe, and was hoping that they might be having some kind of radical sale as they seem to do annually. thanks,

They just finished up a big sale last month... I believe there is one at the end of every year, and there may be a more mild mid-year sale, too.

Jet had a slae last April and Woodcraft had an additional 10% on top of Jet's sale. I am not sure if they will do it again. I am thinking about a 1642 2hp also. The current best price I have found was $2156 shipped to WA from Tool Nut. That is a little steep for my blood right now.

Do you truly need the 2HP over the 1.5HP? Many think yes, but reality says no... I picked up the 1.5HP and saved several hundred $s... if I ever really need that extra power, I'll either upgrade the motor/VFD or upgrade the entire lathe.

I don't know. I am using a HF lathe right now and am getting tired of it. I don't do a lot of turning(probably because of the lathe) but don't want to upgrade ever again. I can't decide if I need 1.5 or 2.

How large of an item do you plan on turning? A few here turn really large, thick blanks and they claim they've been stymied by too little power... but it's not common. A 12" bowl isn't going to cause you an issue with 1.5HP A 24" bowl done outboard could make you think twice about using anything other than a V-8 to power the lathe.

I haven't turned anything huge yet. Mostly pens, 6" diameter pull tops, spindles, etc. I have stalled mine on the tops. I put a wet knarley 12" dia hunk on it a while back to try to make a bowl and it walked across the shop. The "you never know" and "buy once cry once" has got me in anaylis paralysis. I have time to decide while I wait for a sale. I have done a search and read all the threads on the 1642, I hate to start another one in the turning section.
