Also a couple pictures I took of me turning.

Alex, I really like this piece!! Very nice - and, some neat pics of you and the lathe. I am quite jealous of the weather, BTW!! But, not jealous of living in CA!!
The wood and the form of the vase are really nice, good work!

the olive is gorgeous..I like the "organic-y, garlic bulb" shape.
Beautiful piece Alex...one thing that Calif does not have a shortage of is good olive wood

Sure is some pretty wood! I like the form - very natural looking. Did you hollow the vase or drill for the glass insert? Can't tell from the photos.
Nice series of photos showing you working!

Great vase. I really like the Olive wood. Nice at-work pic's also. I have shovels smaller than that gouge!
That's a really good looking vase. Looks like you've got a crack growing. Hope it doesn't continue. Looks like you like big handles. he heh
Paul that is a really nice piece. Love that wood. You should be ashamed showing us pic's with garage door open wearing flip-flops for those of us in the midwest to the east.

Alex, great wood and nice shots of you in your shop. These should be on the Turners and Their Lates Thread in the master stickies area. I wish everyone would post pics like yours. It really helps to get to know our fellow turners. Thanks for sharing.

Great piece of wood in the vase! Looks like you had to turn away a lot of wood to get that vase shape!
pshhhh your crazy John. Snowboard in 20 degree weather one day and surf the next in 75.
Steve it is hallowed all the way through but left a little thick, i used to make them all thin but there generally won't be enough weight and some flower can knock them over. Roughly 1/3".
Dan I hope so to, its been about 10 days since i turned it an so far its good. It has some really bad ring shake, and one of the piths I could nearly pop out.
hahahah baxter, thank god those r two different pieces of wood. It'd be quite sad if all I got from that giant piece was this.
I had the same thought as Baxter when I saw you working in that last pic. Nice piece - pleasing form and beautiful wood. I love the smell of olive wood.
