Grizzly stop button.

I didn't want to hijack the other thread about putting in gear oil into a new planer. I just received delivery of my new planer yesterday (GO454Z with spiral cutterhead) and now have it assembled.

Anyway, the only issue is the stop button. It says to push it in, turn and wait for it to pop out. The problem is that the button wont even go on the threads of the actual stop actuator. I called Grizzly and they are sending a replacement red piece of plastic, but it may take a while since they are on back order. That got me thinking that if they are on back order, other people may be having the same issue. Anyone got a fix or having the same issue?

(Can they put any more cosmoline/waxy oil/or whatever it is their using? My new machine took three hours to get it all off. There was so much it was dripping all over my shop. Maybe they could cut back a little on that and put some gear oil in.)

What Joe said! All Grizzly machinery is exposed to lots of salt air and perhaps sea spray, enroute from China to your door. Those sea-going containers are not 100% waterproof. The cosmoline is a deterent to ugly oxidation which would cause many more warranty replacements, than just raising customer ire.

If your "stop" button is like the one on my Powermatic 15" planer, it pushes in, rotates, and locks to prevent the planer being turned on accidentally. When the red button pops out, the "stop" function is available. Mine was guilty of sticking too often! So, I replaced it.

Look on ebay for some used commercial pushbuttons. Some good Allen-Bradley, Cutler-Hammer or Square D pushbuttons can be had quite reasonably if you keep your eye out. The red mushroom head is really cool! Short of a name-brand commercial stop button, there are several on ebay at reasonable prices that will, no doubt, perform better than your non-functioning Griz part. (like this one)

You say it won't even go on the actuator? Mine was a bit loose. I wrapped the threads with 3 layers of teflon tape (like for plumbing) and it has been fine ever since. Grizzly sent me out a new one anyway. The same type of switch has been used on my jointer for years and has never been trouble(?). The back-order situation seems unacceptable. You have a new machine you can't use. Pull the cap off a machine and send it to you right away.

I will try the thread tape idea. I should state that although I am not happy about the part being on back order, the young lady on the phone was very helpful in seeking a solution to the problem.
