Try the Soy-gel paint stripper http://www.amazon.com/SOY-Gel-Paint-...uct/B0002Z11MY I've used it for some small projects. At work though it is used all the time, this is a large hospital and they like it because it is non hazardous. It actually encaspulates the paint, and it just scrapes off with little trouble.

Laying down a plastic sheet to collect the chips is the (obvious now, what was I thinking?) answer
    Cotton/canvas drops work much better.
Plastic blows around too much & it can get slippery @ times to walk on.

Plus - they are expensive for the heavy (4 mil and above) decent ones.

Harbor Freight has 9x12, 10 oz. cotton ones on sale right now for about $15.00. You'd be hard pressed to find even lesser ones at twice that price @ the Borg or a paint store. (most are only 8 oz. or they laminate a butyl back on them to add weight/stop paint from bleeding through).

Jim has it though....vinyl and/or aluminum it & be done with it for pretty much your lifetime.
LOL! The downside to that though is that you can't buy neat new toys & charge them off to the rental .
