    drawer slides for file cabinet

I want to built a file cabinet (2 drawers on top of each other). I want good drawer slides. Are the Blum undermount slides strong enough for file drawers? Hard to install. Something more suitable?

    Thanks

I have made several file cabinets and use full extension side mount slides. The file drawers can be quite heavy and a good quality slide is needed. I do not think that I have ever seen undermount slides for this application. The last file cabinet that I made used Accuride 3832 SC and works very well.

I made a 2 drawer file cabinet for myself and used 21" Blum undermount slides (B562H). They're fulled loaded with files and seem just fine to me. The B568H model is rated for extra weight (125#, I think, vs 75# for B562H) if that's a concern. I didn't find them hard to install as long as you build the drawers to the Blum specs for your application.

Thanks Rick. I really prefer the undermounts for looks with dovetailed drawers. If yours are fully loaded with files and papers that would seem to work for me. Is there a good place to get them? Did you get the blum motion device?

    Many thanks

I did get the blumotion (basically a soft close). I like it. I ordered from woodworkers hardware. The 125# rated ones (B568H) were $41/pair vs $24 for the #75 (B562H), both in 21". The locking devices are sold separate for both. I went with less expensive set because I'm also making his and hers desks and needed 12 sets for that project. The file cabinet was a prototype. It works just fine about about a year.

I just finished an office cabinet set - 14 drawers of which 2 were hanging files. I used the standard Blum undermount with soft close and they work just fine. slides work so well that management wanted off center knobs and all drawers still open perfectly.

thanks. I like the idea of not seeing the slide. I am going with the Blum. Rather expensive though.

    thanks a lot.
