    Intro

    Introducing myself.
I recently bought a used GCC Spirit 30W to have as side business. (I’m active duty Air Force) I was introduced to the laser at work; a Mini14.
Originally we were using it with Cermark to etch tools and then I starting playing with making plaques and awards and that’s what got me hooked.
This was about 4 years ago so starting back up now with using Coral and the laser has been a nice relearning experience.
Just want to say thank you to all the great contributors that make this site such a wealth of knowledge. I wish I had more time to read thru all the post. So much knowledge to soak in…..

This was my specialty when I knew what I was doing. Painted Aluminum plates.

Now I'm experimenting with whatever I can get my hands on now that I have my own machine. So far wood, acrylic, a gun, and a knife.

I want to get my name and quality out so other can see my work.
What do you guys think would have been a good price?

I was given a raw plank of African padauk to start with.

Given the time you spent on it you probably couldn't get a fair price but your design and composition is outstanding. You have a future in this business--just work faster.

    Welcome aboard Adam!

I manage the engraving shop at Scott AFB, what base are you out of?

Search under my name as I have posted many things I do military wise.

Here is a 1st Sergeants piece that we create here. I charge $115.00 + engraving
as the engraving varies for who get this gift.

Here is a clock we do also. It's $70.00 + engraving

Make sure you keep templates for the wood then you are not recreating it each time
    you make one.

1st Sergeants are a niche product in my shop, but I do sell a few of these a year.
These type of projects always bring new customers into the shop as others ask where
they got it and express that they weren't aware we can do this type of thing.

You will what a blast working with the laser, there is much you can sell to those on base.

I recently set up a recognition program for a unit in Afganistan so make yourself known and you'll
    do well.

Adam-- Nice work. I love padauk. It looks like you have a good bit of custom woodworking and engraving in there. I bet you have at least $100 into it with time and materials. Your market knows best what it is worth. My guess is something over $240.

    Beautiful work!
What settings did you use to cut the raw plank of African padauk and how thick was it?

This is some pretty hard wood so I am curious how long it took you on your 30 watt laser. I have 150 watt and it takes quite awhile.

    Thanks for the feedback guys.

    Martin,
I'm station out at Creech(Indian Springs) about 45 min outside of Vegas.

    Vicki,
I only used the laser to lay out my lines and then cut it out on the saw.

    Adam,

Excellent Work !!! And Thank You for your service!!!!

May I make a Suggestion? Look at the CarveWright Hobby CNC... Look over the Forum to see what other Military Guys are doing. With your Laser and a CW you could really put out some nice stuff... I post as Digitalwoodshop on the CW forum.

    Good Luck,
