    Trying to Copy Keith Burns

Ok...I'm no Keith Burns by any stretch of the imagination. However, David Keller sent me this cool little Hickory log and I have been rackin' my brain on what to do with it. I wanted it to be something nice....so that rules out all of my ideas. So I decided to try and copy Keith.

So here it is...It's about 6"X3" Hickory and some kind of South American Rosewood The colors in the hickory appear to be some kind of fungal thing going on, and the spots go from deep red to dark brown. I thought the rosewood would match pretty well.

Very nice, like the form, and whatever it is that's going on in the wood to produce that pattern. Finial matches well too.

    Very nice John!

Are you sure Keith didn't do this?

Oh, man John, I remember turning that piece of hickory and decided it was to bland so I sent it to you. Then you go and paint a pattern on it and claim it is yours ! You are darn right I'm gonna sue ya !

Seriously, man that is totally awesome !!!!!!

What's not to like? Form, finial and finish are 1st rate! FWIW, I think the rosewood is a PERFECT match. Nice one, and thanks for posting. Although I got a couple hours in, I've got turning vacation envy.

I don't know, You and Keith Burns sure do some nice stuff!! Could it be that both of you
have a new Bionic Faceshield with back-to-back serial numbers?? BTW, nice vacation stuff.

Keith Hart? John Burns? Man John, you don't cut any corners when you do your copying. Maybe the two of you need to do a collaboration piece! That is after the lawyers get done with all their hoopla.

That's really cool, John! I've got another piece of that stuff, but I haven't figured out what to do with it yet. I have no idea what makes the wood look that way... I picked it up from my local tree guy shortly before I sent it to you.

If Grumpy's lawsuit falls through, I may try my hand at something similar. I love the choice of finial wood, and the form is pure sweetness.

    Fantastic!

Nice one... Other than the fact that Keith's finials are a bit more slender, this is a very passable copy.
