    Night Stands Complete

Some of you may remember my previous post on the walnut sleigh bed:

Also my deliberations on the design of the night stands:

I have completed all but the drawer pulls. Here is the final product:

    I'll post progress pics later...

I'm now struggling with the design of the drawer pulls. Suggestions welcome!
    Her are some progress pics:

I used the same press to make the veneered curved panels as with the bed:
    ns press.jpg
One challenge was to fit the curved panels exactly following the curve of the legs. For this I made a little jig with 2 contact points that allowed me to follow the contour:
    ns router.jpg
I pre-finished all the pieces with several coats of Watco, followed by many coats of wipe on poly:

Because the rails were angled to the curve of the panels I included another board to mount the drawer guides. These were dominoed into the leg to be flush with the inside of each leg:

I made cleats using dominos to attach the top:

    Thanks for looking.

    Cheers

Beautiful work. The curve is very subtle, yet effective. Both the design and technique comes off well.

Very nice work Hans. Great idea on the router table jig and a novel use of the Domino for table top attachment. Man, I just love walnut.

Very nice! I'll be interested to see what you come up with for drawer pulls.

I like your night stands Hans. The half blinds look like a good fit.I know how you feel with drawer pulls i have the same trouble i hate buy something off the shelf.A turned ebony knob is my best save if i run out of time. And need to move on.

Thanks folks, what do you think of this knob design? No finish yet, just testing, held on with some double sided tape:

Very fitting night stands to compliment the sleigh bed Hans.
Real nice work. Love the dovetails. And to me the knobs look great.

Really nice Hans, they will go nicely with the bed.

I too like the pulls. Simple yet functional.

Nice Work Hans. I am of a more rectilinear thought on the pulls, but those look great too. Maybe some kind of a bow-out shape.

    Hans -

Beautiful work as always....these look really nice. Joinery is superb - just terrific! I like the pulls. I'm usually a linear pull guy too, but these are a neat look and work for me!
    Again - great craftsmanship.

Thanks to all. Not sure if it's sheer laziness kicking in, or the knobs are growing on me. After applying finish and wax, they look mighty fine, so they get glued in tomorrow. Now time to figure out what's next!
