    Morgan Vise No. 10A

I recently purchased a Morgan Wood Vise No. 10A at an antique store in Tenn.
It has a Sliding Nut stamped in casting. The sliding nut looks like a door dead bolt that is attached to the face on the handle size. It moves vertically. Does anyone know the function of this "sliding nut"? I believe the vise to be 1950-1960 vintage.

If it looks like the thing protruding from this vise it's for holding a piece of lumber securely flat on the bench. When combined with the dogs that stick out of the dog holes that are spaced at regular intervals less than the total opening of the vise closing the vise traps the wood between the 'dead bolt' in the vise and the dog.
