    Ferris Wheel

This was a very last minute piece I decided to do for entry into our local fair. I call it a Ferris wheel but many have said it looks like a water wheel. I thought Ferris wheel was more appropriate for the fair. I was able to complete the wheel portion in a weekend and the A frame in a couple of evenings. It got Best of Show!!
Its about 10" high, made of walnut and birch.

Brian, that is excellent work, and I am impressed with the assembly process. Getting all of those spindles the right length, and making it all come together - literally, was quite a feat. Great job on the spindle replication, too. Neat project, and congratulations!

Replication is IMHO the most difficult task in turning. Anybody can make one of a kind or "make a design change" as the need requires. Making multiples to me is the supreme test of one's skills. You, sir, have succeeded IMHO. Very nicely done!

Might I suggest you send a picture of this to my old friends at Eli Bridge Co.? I used to work there during high school many years ago.

Thank you everyone for the great replies! I had a lot of fun doing this. The smaller spindles actually went pretty easy, I can't think of one I messed up on, but I bet I have at least 3 of the A frame spindles that I screwed up on. Go figure! I do plan on motorizing it, just didn't have time before the fair.
