For my personal projects, I use sketchup. I use the dimension tool to create 'working drawings' exported out as jpg files. When I'm done I have the working model, it helps me plan out builds, joints, and I can always go back and explode it if I need to make a change. Just be sure to make each piece of wood a group before you move on to the next. I don't have a need to export out drawings.
    Where did I put that?

One vote in defense of MacDraft. I love it. It's simple 2d.

Another alternative if you're not dead set on it being a native Mac app is to use VMware Fusion. You can even run the app in seamless mode so you never have to see a windows desktop. Fusion is about $75 and of course you'll need a windows OS.
