I've heard that birch is difficult to work with. I know that it is popular as a plywood veneer, but I think that owes to it's mellow grain when rotary cut. I've seen some workbench tops made from it. Can anyone share experiences or point me to an article about the dimensional stability, workability, etc. of birch? I might spring for some 8/4 stock and make a tabletop or two. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance, Walt
