Question Quick (I hope) De-Greasing Question

    Hi all,

I just received the adapter for my Barracuda2 chuck today. I'm anxious to put it to use, but the chuck and accessories are sealed in plastic bags filled with protective grease. What's the best way to de-grease and re-lubricate the chuck?

    Thanks,

    Noah

the only thing that I did was to remove as much grease as I could using paper towels

I agree with Ray. Just wipe off the excess and thread it on. Might sit a paper towel on it as you ramp up the rpms for any extra that fly off.

No, it's not thin enough yet.

Kerosene works really well at removing packing grease. I found this out as it was recommended by one of the tool manufacturers I bought tools from.

My Laguna Bandsaw was covered in the stuff. Laguna said use WD40, I found just a little bit went a long way and cleaned it right up in no time with surprising little mess.

Mineral Spirits in a spray bottle and a roll of paper towels will probably get you to the finish line.

I just got a chuck today from PSI and used 409 automotive cleaner. Took it right off.

I'll second good old (cheap) mineral spirits, although it ruins latex gloves in about 39 nanoseconds. Use another type of glove for best results. I lube my chucks with Remington dry spray lube. Nothing sticky for dust to collect on.

I did the initial cleaning with wd40 also. Once clean and wiped off as well as I could I mounted the chuck held an empty cardboard box to cover the chuck and turned the late on at 3K. Slung the remainder into the box which got trashed.
