    Some advice please

I view with some amazement those of you who make the beautiful turnings which consist essentially of a hollow form on a rather slender "stem". Please advise me on the proper technique for assembling such turnings. Do you rough turn both parts, assemble (perhaps using a tenon), and finish turn together? Or are both parts essentially finish turned followed by assembly (again with tenon or ?) and just some final sanding? Or is there some other magical technique which I'm missing? Any advice would be appreciated and thanks.

I recommend that both parts be essentially finish turned, one with a tenon. If the stem is not too slender then the junction can be cleaned up on the lathe with light cuts.

Here's a link to a step-by-step thread the John Keeton put together: http://www.sawmillcreek.org/showthread.php?174148-WIP-quot-Acero-Dolce-quot-or-quot-Sweet-Maple-quot-now-finished!&highlight=

There are more out there, but this was the first one I could find.
