    Veritas twin-screw vs. Lie-Nielsen chain-drive?

To me these vises look essentially the same. Has anyone used or had experience with both of them?

I have direct experience with the Lie-Nielsen, having bought one when they initially became available. I can find no real fault with it. Metal screws are slow traveling, but grip tightly...a tradeoff. Having the ability to clamp wide boards between the screws is fantastic. There simply is no racking in a twin screw vise. The main thing in installing is that the screws have to be exactly parallel, so care must be taken at every step. I made my own chop with the chain hidden inside.

I'll have to say that the best tool I have is my bench. It makes everything else I need to do possible.
