Thread: Biaxial Black Cherry

  1. Biaxial Black Cherry

Took a break from NE bowls and decided to try something just a little different for me. I've done one other piece like this a few years ago and plan to do more. This piece of Arkansas Black Cherry is turned on two axes and hollowed. It ended up 5" wide and just shy of 6" tall. Comments and opinions welcomed.

I like that. Very unique shape. A very clean and simple HF that works very well.

Really cool concept Mark and it has one of those 'how'd he do that' qualities! Very different!

A grouping of these next to some of John Beaver's would make for a cool exhibit. Either one on their own for that matter, but they would definitely compliment each other.
Wonderful piece Mark, definitely has that head scratching effect to it.

And, that you did!!!! Very nice work, Mark. Is the foot/base round, or is there a flat?

    Mark,

I love it. Very well done. The simplicity of the wood compliments the modern lines in the shape. IMHO it would not look as good with highly figured wood.

Mark, I think what Alan is trying to say is that you should just send him and the rest of us any highly figured wood you may have as it will only be a distraction for continued work on forms like this.

well done, must of been turning a lot of air on one of the axis, like your concept, great form, good choice of wood

looks like it is hollowed to an even thickness, neat trick for biaxis

Sorry I already grabbed all the spare we he had at the shop. He puts out the call that there is some spare wood and we are there before he hits send
