Hanging a planer, spindle sander and a mortiser.

I'm thinking about building two of the flip top carts for my DW735 planer, Rigid spindle sander and my mortiser. My question is what are the thoughts about hanging these tools upside down. It just makes me a little nervous about messing something up on them by doing that. What are your thoughts?

I've been spinning my planer, CMS and / or Sanders for years. No worries.

It's a good way to get all the chips out of the various crevices in the planer.

Tullie, the only issue will be the mortiser.

If you don't lock the head in place, when you turn it upside down the gas strut will fully extend since it isn't supporting the weight of the head.

I don't have a double type stand, just one planer on it and that is so I can get it under my bench. I have no problems at all, I do vacuum the planer out real good before I flip it over.

I've use a flip top cart for my DW735 (733 before that) and Rigid Spindle Sander for over 8 years without any issues. On the spindle sander, I remove the belt/drums before I flip it down for storage.

No experience with the mortiser upside down, but I would agree with Rod what would happen. My mortiser sits on the base of my drill press (upright) when not in use.
