    Beads Afire!

I have been practicing turning beads with a Drozda style spindle gouge. I have become fairly good at turning larger beads (1/2" to 3/8") so once I turned this Box Elder exterior to become a HF I decided to turn 1/4" beads. I found out quickly that turning small beads is more challenging than turning larger beads. I have a ways to go.

HF is 12"x7" with approx. 1/16" wall from bottom of bead to inside wall. I wanted to do something different for the top. I had these "sticks" that I have tried on several other turning. I turned the top to mimic the form, dyed to match the red of the Box Elder, and used the sticks which kinda match the color and form of the beads.

    Critique and comments welcome.DSCN0543 (500 x 621).jpg

Dick, if you "have a ways to go" one wouldn't know it by looking at this piece!! Very well done, nice form, and I like the finial/knob application. Nice work, and you didn't even have to resort to the burn barrel!

This came out very nice, and I also like the finial/knob you did on this. Can't imagine getting much better than what I see for this beading!

Nice bead work Dick. I can't believe how nice you got your beads without a beading tool! The piece works very well with the Box Elder and I like the dyed knob to match. I am not too fond of the "twigs" and don't think this piece needs them, but to each their own. Nice piece.

Very nice Dick, very consistent on the beads especially without a beading tool, love the colors and the shape but I have to go along with Scott on the finial twigs.

Very nice Dick! The beading looks great, especially since they were done without a beading tool.

looks super dick. I'm unsure about the sticks, but the colorful lid lifter is great

Dick very cool piece. You did good on the color matching, really enhances it. The beading just took it to a higher level. Well done!
