The handplane? A re-habbed stanley Handyman #4 With a new set of Black Walnut handles, a flat sole, and a nice sharp iron, set fine. The wood? Barn wood, maybe an oak, ash, or similar type of hardwood.
The wood looks like beech to me... nice plane!
