This Article May Have You Re-Thinking About MDF

I'm building garage cabinets using MDF, and in my research, I found this amazing article.

I'll say this, there is some incredible work being done with MDF. A square garage cabinet looks to be at the lowest end of possibilities.

Thanks for that - great information, especially the special Spax screws.

Here's an arch I just built out of MDF:

Great stuff for paint grade work.

MDF is fantastic for veneering to as it is flat, stable, and cheap. I made a tansu out of it with shop-cut 1/16" walnut veneers:

The entire article is so interesting, I'll read it when I have nothing else to do. Makes me wish I had a CNC or laser cutter.

The two things I found very useful for the project I'm currently working on:

    1. detailed information on screw types and the pilot holes. My local borg did't have the correct size Spax, so i was able to use what I had on hand. (para 6.1)
    2. painting (para 7)

Whoever would have thought that MDF could be powder coated? (para 7.2)

The examples, pgs 52-74, lead me to believe that MDF is more versatile than any other manufactured material.
