Got me a load of Box Elder

Found me some Box Elder at the Landscape Recycling Center a couple of days ago.
My operarator "Buddy" was not there that day. Looks like a 30" x 11' trunk of this tree is near the bottom of one of the large piles of tree trunks.
I will see if he is there one day next week, hope someone does not get it.

Looks like a good haul Jerry - I'm even more impressed by the fact that you haul your lathe around in the vehicle with you, ready to turn at a moment's notice!!

  5. Is that a mobile turning studio you are hauling that wood in? I noticed the lathe in the background.......

That mini won't turn those big chunks, better ship 'em to me.

If you had a bandsaw or a chainsaw in that van, that mini might stand a chance a turnin' a coupla those...

    just sayin.

Jerry, much of what you have there will have fantastic figure! Great score, and hope you get the rest.

Thanks for the heads up Jerry. I see a road trip to Urbana in my near future.

Awesome score. I LOVE box elder. There is just something about a wood with red streaks that makes me smile.

No, it's not thin enough yet.

"Have lathe, will turn", can bring wood.
I do shows most weekends from mid April to Christmas. At most I demonstrate and promote woodturning(sometimes with solar panels). This lathe stays in van(except on weekends at the shows.
Yes I need to get busy turning something.
Still have five lathes in the turning shop.
Couple of Redbud burls in there, chainsaws still out by woodpile,
Next time I go there, the people who go there to gat wood to sell may have EVERYthing cleaned out.
    It is hit and miss

Great score! I hope I come across some box elder one of these days. It's on my list of never turned woods! Can't wait to see what comes out of that haul.
