    Chinese Elm

The neighbor cut a decent size limb last week and I snagged a 3ft. piece. I think that it is an import Elm species. I am spoiled by mesquite, this was a bear to turn, always moving, stringy tear-out, etc. Pretty figure in places. I turned it pretty thin and it warps quickly. I had the other side of the limb blowup on me this afternoon. I caught a snag and the bottom was a little too thin. 8 1/2" x 7 5/8" x 3" tall.
    Rugby ball shape.

Pretty piece of wood. I really like the grain and figure. The warping lends a feeling of something old to this piece. Glad you got this one to finish.

Elm is not my favorite either. Those and the smell of some species aren't worth the trouble, but if I could find some with that contrast I would like it better. Good job. I really like what you have done.
