This is not really a candidate for "best," but for my fellow bottom feeders, here is a Quangsheng [manufacturer of Wood River?] for a #4 that cost the equivalent of $22, anchip breaker 003.jpgd that includes shipping from England! I honed the edge slightly, and it was already spot on.

Kind of at the bottom of things here. I have a Union Mfg Co. iron on my Union #4G, it has a Stanley chip breaker, as the Union one was a bit loose with the adjuster tab. The stanley was a tighter fit, in fact, it came off a Stanley Victor plane. I have several Stanley irons and breakers, a Keen kutter or two.......you see my point? I have gotten used to those old irons, most are even older than I am.

Chip breakers: some of mine took awhile to get set right. To the point where chips will go up & over the hump, rather than duck under it. Not a big deal for me, all part of tuning a plane for work.SDC12930.jpgUnion chip breakeron a Buck Brothers iron. Nuff said...
