Lock desktop Icons in place Win 7

Someware along the way something changed and now my icons move in order
to the left of the desktop. Is there an easy way to lock these in place?

    Thanks!

Right click on the desktop. Select View. Make sure that Auto Arrange and Align icons to grid are both NOT checked. You can then move the icons where you want them.

I tried that, when I restart the computer, they all go to the left again and I check the "view" only to find that the Align Icons to Grid is checked again?!!!!

    Hey Martin,

I have the same issue, when I choose to restart or when an automatic update forces a restart all my desktop icons align to the left side of the screen.

I've done some searching around and have not found a clear cut, simple answer to this problem ..... and I'm sure it will be simple.

    Watching with interest.

    Try the solution at

http:// www.howtogeek.com/howto/ windows-vista/ save-and-restore-desktop-icon-layout-in-windows-vista/ (remove the spaces for the link to work)

This should also work for Win 7. Note there are different solutions for 32- and 64-bit.
