Does splalted maple have wood movement?

I've a 11 inch wide, 2 in. thick spalted maple board that I'd like to attach to a base with 2 supporting rails underneath.
The board wood core doesn't feel solid enough to handle having some screws going up through the rails into the maple board.
Think I could simply epoxy the board to the rails?
Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

    Brian,

Does spalted maple have wood movement? Sure, why wouldn't it? The question, though, is if the predictable wood movement will be an issue for any particular application.

Do you plan to attach the rails to the maple cross grain, or is there something else about the construction that will impede cross grain movement of your 11" board? Tightly screwed or tightly glued, no matter which, might cause a problem in that case. As a general rule it's best to allow wood movement (shrinking and/or expanding); 11" isn't too terribly wide, but still....
