Moulding plane tutorial needed

I need to make a moulding plane for a project I am working on.
I have found that you can not use scratch stock across grain with much if any success.
Does anyone have any ideas about where to get an of how to make a moulding plane?

In going across the grain it helps if the plane has a knicker or what worked better for me was to score the edge with a knife before cutting.

It also helps to do your cross grain cuts before doing the cuts with the grain. This will help to clear away any of the blown out grain.

I have a few hollows and rounds that are getting a lot of use. One day I hope to get at least a half set of hollows and rounds. Some of my molding work has been done with a Stanley 45 or 55. They are not as versatile as a wood bodied "molding" plane.

I use my rounding planes a lot for shaping edges and such.

No, it won't. Make yourself a half set of hollows and rounds, and a good rebate plane, and you will be able to replicate a short run of (almost) any profile you could want. I say almost because, while I can't think of a profile I can't make with them, nothing is absolute in this world.

Grease the slope, and take a running start before diving head first. It's more fun that way.

May be that is what I should do. Start making hollows and rounds. Hmmmm.
I think I could make the profile I want from them.

Great idea and I would not have to make a lot of different profiles for each project.

Problem mostly solved.

Start making hollows and rounds.... as soon as I learn to make them. Still waiting video.

Need to Google rebate plane to see what that is.
