Beautiful work, Ron, and while I haven't yet worked with olive, I plan to!

Very nice work! The curves are really cool.

How is the balance with the handle behind the sole like that?

Beautiful work Ron. Happy New Year in 27 minutes your time.

I really like the shapes and curves on the steel.

That's really beautiful Ron! I sure hope I can see your planes in person at some point! Is olive as hard as something like hard maple?
    Thanks for sharing!

Beautiful work. I looked at some olive wood at Rockler in The Twin Cities but it was full of inclusions, I probably would have had 75% waste of a very expensive piece of wood to find a solid enough piece for a tote. Are you able to find nice tight chunks or do you deal with the waste?
    What grade stainless?

I will be at the HandWorks Event at the Amana Colonies in Iowa, May 2013,

Olive is probably about as hard as soft maple but it's really a different animal altogether so comparing to a maple really doesn't do it justice.

410 Alloy Stainless, Olive wood is hard to find and I have never found any material that was already dry. You have to plan way ahead to allow time for slow air drying and then I finish it off in a light bulb kiln that is low heat and low humidity.

Super nice plane. Olive wood can be be very pretty. I have a piece set aside for a smooth plane. It's nearly black except for a white streak on one of the corners. At the rate that I seem to get work done, the plane will be made sometime around 2023.
If it ain't broke, fix it til it is!

    Ron,

I've told you this many times before, but your planes are beautiful.

I've got a 12" X 3.5" X 3.5" billet of Olive that I am just waiting to turn into a woodie smoother. I love the look of the wood, and it's quite dense. MC is just a little high, and should be dry enough soooooooooon!

    Happy New Year,

    Jeff
