    Machine making noise

When I reset the laser or hit focus, it makes a funny noise in the top left corner. Does not when it is engraving, but when I cut, it cuts wierd when going up not across....any thoughts.

If you are getting a twang like a guitar string, then its probably a belt tension issue. Easy fix.

More of a grind...... When I turned on the machine today, it didn't do it. Then the X Y became disabled. Came unplugged. When I plugged back in, the grinding was back. Again only when it moves so I can focus and when I hit reset.....

I don't have any experience with Epilogs, but could one of the bearings on for the y axis be not rolling smoothly? Or is the track that the bearing rides in dirty? Both of those problems cause a grinding noise and engraving problems on a Universal.

I'll be watching this one. I replaced a stepper motor on my ULS when it was making the noise, didn't help. I thought it was either a limit switch, or the motor. Hope someone has the answer.

I don't know the machine. But the focus is the Z motor, right?

Sounds like you have a bad limit switch for the home position.

Also make sure all your rulers are down. Inevitably at one point in time or another, the operator neglects to put one of the rulers down, ( usually the one on the extreme right side )
Life and death don't bother me. It's that little period of time in between that bothers me.

  10. I had a problem with my belt vibrating and the carriage would make a grinding noise (I have an Epilog as well). All it needed was tightning...not sure if this is your problem. Here's a link for the fix:

Right about that Greg. I removed the right side ruler. It wasn't doing me any good and I forgot it was up one time too many.
