    muninga/padauk dining table

this is a 16' muninga top and padauk base table that I did for a customer. the customer originally brought the muninga from africa 36 years ago. had to use the padauk as muninga is difficult to procure here and the padauk colour would eventually tone in to a close match. there was just enough material for the top

That is stunning! Does the client have chairs or is there a further business opportunity?

Wow! That is beautiful, and massive! I bet it weighs a few kilos! I love the graceful arches. Are they a laminate?

    Ron,
That's absolutely beautiful. How was the Muninga to work with? Easy to mill, sand, finish? It looks heavy and dense. Very nice.

thank you. it is a pretty stable wood but one does not want to plane it against the grain. it is about the same density as the padauk- related I believe

it does close down to 8". there is 4 2' leafs
yes it is my design I guess. there are influences in everything we do though. I did make another of the same design a few years earlier out of S.A. mahogany. which was 6' closed and 9' extended. I did make the stretchers a little heavier on the muninga table. if you copy and paste on the furniture link(signature) below you can see it

the floor is the reason that I got the table job. the customer originally came to asking if I could run his flooring for him. he wanted 14' boards.I didn't he was having it done in this area and was perhaps getting bent over the counter in a few places. I went to A&M Wood Special for the customer. I gave this info to the customer. ties whom I have been dealing with for over 30 years and Andrew suggested that he could run it . the customer ordered it along with the padauk and 12/4 e.maple for the extensions. Andrew has never disappointed and he is 2500 mi away.
I had advised the cust to keep the flooring inside to eliminate moisture problems. people do not understand this. he put it under an outside covering for about 2 weeks prior to laying it. you can see the openings
