    Polishing lacquer

Someone wants me to polish a piece of their furniture. It currently has a flat lacquer finish and they want it shinier. I've tried a few things on test pieces with no luck.
Any ideas, or should I just plan on spraying a fresh coat of a higher sheen?
    Thanks!!

That's a pretty vague request. I would shy away, unless I was refinishing it.

You can only polish to the limits of the existing lacquer, and that's it. If it's a flat lacquer, lotsa luck with that.

get some Mirka Abralon, its a fine sanding pad, 2000 will give you a satin, 3000 will give you a semi gloss and 4000 a gloss. The flat lacquer has alot of fumed silica as a flattner, but by rubbing it out you can increase the surface sheen .This may help http://www.cn-woodworking.com/rubbin...inish-parts-1/

go easy, remember your sanding, and be very careful on edges, you dont want to rub thru

Thanks, Charles. I'll see if I can find some locally. Hopefully I can as they want this done Saturday.
