Thread: Countdown to the Baileigh $1,600 givaway / contest !!!

  1. Countdown to the Baileigh $1,600 givaway / contest !!!

Hey guys, we are going to be giving away $1,600 in Baileigh bucks here in a few days. The contest will go for 30 days, and then 1 week of voting. The winner gets to spend the money on any machinery on our site : http://wood.baileighindustrial.com/ . Stay tuned for a big announce in this thread! We are still deciding what type of contest to have. Any suggestions would be great.

Normally I'd think about some sort of project show-off thread, however considering how new your foray into woodworking is, there won't be many people out there with completed projects using your tools.

I've seen various companies put up a "write why you should get this" thread on facebook or elsewhere. But in all honestly I'm not fond of those, since I've seen a few that seem to devolve into a "who can write the best sob story".

I think I still come back to just holding a simple draw. It's totally egalitarian.

We do plenty of FreeStuff Drawings here that only require each person to opt-in and the winners name is drawn. The problem with this type of situation is the people are not engaged in the process. A better type of contest promotes more than an opportunity to win a prize, there is satisfaction gained by each participant based solely on their effort.

Asking people to write a paragraph or two describing what or why puts more people at a disadvantage than those who don't own competitive workshops. This situation is slanted towards those who have better communication skills. In the future I intend to move our FreeStuff drawings more toward project competitions with less opt-in types of drawings.

    - make a sketchup model of a bayleigh ww'ing tool. Then draw from the applicants. As a bonus, the best (most accurate) of each kind will be added to the sketchup 3d warehouse so that people can use them to design/plan their own shops. (you guys should provide the bayleigh logo/nameplate to get us started)
    - design/describe a new bayleigh ww'ing tool (ie: make up one that doesn't exist, either serious or silly)
    - photoshop a bayleigh tool into a famous photo or painting. (ie: mona lisa using a tablesaw, drillpress visiting the great pyramid, etc)

    ???

How about something like the Freestuff drawings, BUT, each entry has to showcase a project donated to some good cause.

Good causes can be anything like a church raffle, some local non-profit (like a woman's shelter), something to help at a senior center, or even sold on eBay where 100% of the proceeds are donated to one of the eBay-listed charities?

I think the selection should still be random (I can into reasons why if need be), and would leave it up to others if more than one entry would be allowed (arguments can be made both ways).
