    Simonds 73?

I picked this up along with a decent Bailey No. 5 this morning at a garage sale. I'm kind of new to neander tools and wanted to get some info on what I have here. The plate length is 10" and I think the tooth pattern is crosscut.
It is desperate need of sharpening.

Any information I can get on it would be great.
Also can anybody recommend somewhere to get it tuned up for a reasonable price?

Is the rust digging deep into the plate or just surface rust?

Have you considered cleaning the plate and redoing the teeth yourself?

It looks to be mostly surface rust. I have thought about redoing the teeth myself, but I really have no idea where to start.

The saw should clean up well. I would carefully take the handle off and sand the saw plate starting with 320 sand paper using wd-40 or mineral spirts as lubricant and go through 600 grit sand paper. Theres a good tutorial on sharping saws on vintagesaw.com. Good Luck
