    Lizard Cane

A lady in California saw the cane I carved in pear and requested a similar design.... she rescues and has raised monitor lizards! It was a challenge to incorporate the pose she wanted into a cane, but I came up with a design that both of us liked. She especially wanted a similar expression to the other cane. So here it is, carved from southern basswood and finished with polyurethane and Briwax.

    Mike, nice design... nicely executed.

What tool do you use to create the skin texture?

The skin texture is with a pyrographic pen and a small writing tip...just make a lot of small circles and vary the direction and size a bit. I got an email back from the cutomer. She said she showed it to her 5 foot long lizard and he hissed at it! I'm glad it looked real to him, but I'd hate to upset a lizard that big!
