This is not a new observation but we are living in the best of times for a Neanderthal! We can buy saws that are better than anything used by our forebears, hand planes that are not only beautiful but incredibly effective, and an incredible amount of choice in the steel used in our cutting tools.

Now if we only figure out the best way to sharpen said tools we could move on to actually building something!
