Plus you have to get past the language barrier when you speak with people in the UK. That's another grand right there. That table is a money pit.

have you taken possession of this table? Sounds like a typo to me, sellers are not held to a typo on ebay. I have a hard time believing you will get the table for $2, but bravo if you do, its a handsome piece of QSWO.

I have actually collected the table and paid $2 (£1.20) for it .The reason for my post was to demonstrate old furnuture on Ebay can be a possible souce for timber .I agree with Mike,s statement it is pretty wood and the table is ugly IMO
Old oak dinning tables are frequently listed on E bay in the UK and you can if you are prepared to drive up to 50 miles purchase one about every 2 weeks The price range is about £5 to £20 ($9 to $36)

Interestingly when I dismantled the table I discovered it was held together with oak doweled jionts

That table sold for £510. Quite a bit more than "$9 to $36". So much for any preconceived range.

Nice find. I don't know that the table is particularly ugly, though I don't care for the edging on the top or the color. The piece can be stripped and refinished, not entirely sure what to do about the edge.

What's your plan for it? Break it up for material? Refinish? Exotic firewood?

I think I would just leave it as it is.The frame looks correct enough that it could be its period and someone replaced the top to get rid of a crack or ink stain. The feet don't show any wear,but its possible they are replacements. Look for tool marks and patches on the base. If it is an old base I would change to a more appropriate top and write on the bottom your assessment and thumb tack a photo of the table in its present condition .Otherwise it 'yam what it yam'.

We are told it was manufactured around 1900 - 1910

Quite a large table and for that size £510 is not a lot of money
