Question What kind of vehicle is your lathe really?

I just read where somebody said that comparing the Grizzly G0694 to the Powermatic 3620 is like comparing a Fiat to a Bentley. I don't think so! Too exaggerated. How about a Base Ford 150 to a Top of the line 250 truck? I don't have either one, so give me a better comparison.

What is your lathe? Mine is a Honda Civic. Delta 46-460.

Anybody want to rate your lathe realistically compared to a vehicle.

  2. I would say that my Grizzly G0698 18/47 is not a Cadillac for sure..........I would liken it to a good reliable Buick however...........the ride may not be quite as nice, but it will certainly get you to your destination!

I also like my Honda Civic -46-460!

My Nichols is a D-9 Bulldozer with leather seats

Agree a holtzapffel might qualify as a Bentley. My Powermatic 3520 is more of ... hmm a D-2 maybe.

I'm going to disagree with the Nichols being a D-9 - D-8 for sure For a D-9 I'd go for some monstrous old pattern makers lathe like an Oliver 20-C or maybe (more accurately?) a ships mast lathe like this one.. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bZJbFN3jG9M - hmm maybe that's a D-11..

So I guess my Jet 1642 is a Ford Explorer? or maybe a Chevy Blazer?

No idea what you'd compare my Robust to (see sig)... but I got the entire "extras" package (GPS, spinners, AM/FM/CD player with Bose surround system, etc.).

    Spinners... HA! No pun intended.

  10. Most of the Grizzly lathes I have seen are more akin to a Yugo or a Corvair .....

My Stubby is like a Ford F650. I haven't named it yet but I may name it George as in "I'll hug you and squeeze you and pet you and call you George."

I have done so much with so little for so long I am now qualified to do anything with nothing......

P.S. If you are interested in plans for any project that I post, just put some money in an envelope and mail it to me and I will keep it.

I would have to classify my Oneway 1224 as a Mercedes SLK280, My Oneway 2436 as a NASCAR stocker and my Robust Liberty as the belle of the ball.

I guess my little Delta 46-250 midi would be a VW bug or a SmartCar.

I think the Jet line is probably more akin to the better domestic cars of the 90s. They were improving because of competition with the Japanese cars, but weren't quite there yet... Jet 1014 and the 1642 being of better quality than the 1236...

My Harbor Freight Special, is more akin to the Chrysler K cars, .... Luck of the draw, If it runs good, it will run forever and get you where you need to go (although not is style) If it has problems, it will always have problems and a PITA the whole time you have it. Fortunately I have the former, not the Latter... Or maybe old school Dodge Dart w/ a slant 6?

I think my Jet 1642 is a Chevy - middle of the road and does just about everything I need. Not the most powerful and doesn't have all the bells and whistles, but its a good machine.
