    this doesn't exactly address your question, but I used a plastic insert from PennState. It worked, but was more trouble than it was worth. I would just not use the gripper if it works well without it. Even if reinforcing the gripper prevents it from buckling, you still have the leak the plastic bags cause.

    If you're emptying and reusing your bags, could you get a few ziploc bags of sand and put them in the bottom of the bag. Retrieve when you empty the sawdust.

    Craig,

    I think you have a leak at the drum, between the drum and the bag. I think I would try putting some gasket material of some type on top of the drum.
