    Angry Another SCAM Alert

    Got an email to quote a price on 2x20 Name Plates.

    Then a reply ... asking for a quote on 600 2x10 Name Plates

    Then another reply.... purchasing 1,200 2x10 Name Plates

    Red lights & bells were going off in my head, so I looked up the guy's name & business. It is a known scam alias: "John Gillan" of "William & Son (Package) Ltd"

    Finally...... The address to mail them to was in Greece.

    I was going to blow his scam, but have decided to just block his name, the company name and email address.

    We get a lot of scammers trying to "buy" large amounts of aluminum. I assume once they get it they can scrap it for some quick bucks.

    The way I understand the scam works is they pay with a stolen credit card that has not yet been reported as stolen. They ask you to use this same card number for an overseas shipping company to delivery the products. They get free merchandise and you get stiffed to make good on the bad credit card plus materials and labor you put into the project. On top of that you could be charged with using a stolen credit card when you give that same card info to the shipping company.

    If you use a service like SpamCop, you can submit any email as a spam, and it will send you a link to a full tracing of the email route.. Most times regardless of where they say they are, the emails originate in Africa.

    This same guy e-mailed me yesterday & twice today. Wanted a quote for 2 x 20" nameplate "William & Son Ltd". First he wanted acrylic & then changed to black brass. I sent artwork draft & quote per piece & have not received his responce.
    I've had a weird feeling about this...THANK YOU for the tip!!

    419 scams are all pretty much variations on a theme (419 is the Nigerian Penal Code violation that deals with these types of rip off)
