First time cutting wet wood... Got it off a curb, and sliced it. Can anyone tell me what wood this is?

I'm going with ash to start, but can you post a photo of the bark?

Definitely not ash, I voted maple, guessing soft red maple without seeing the bark.

My first guess is ash as well. Some center rot and a bit of color. Need to see the bark please.

I voted pecan, mostly a guess. Any more pictures?

Based on the end grain, I would almost say hickory, although it does look very maple like at first glance. Ash stinks when you cut it, enough that you probably would have mentioned it.

Those are silver or red maple leaves I believe, though the focus is way off. The tree appears to be a maple tree, as well.

Of the trees listed only the ash and maple would have the opposite branching shown in the first picture. If the leaves are from the same tree I would have to agree that it's a silver maple.

Its probably silver maple then, I called my friend and he says there are many silver maples in that neighborhood.

    Thanks Sawmill CSI!

Its trash! Fortunately for you, I am in Fort Worth and can help you dispose of it.

I keep an eye out for trees getting cut down and all I can seem to find are black poplar and various oaks. Wish I could find someone cutting down a nice pecan, hickory, walnut or maple tree.

The sapwood certainly looks like red maple as does what little bit of bark you can see. Overall it looks a lot like pecan but I think even from that angle you'd be able to see the thick furrowed bark of pee-can. As to the leaves, red maple are not as extremely lobed as the one in the foreground appears to be. So, I guess I'd go with silver leaf also.

After seeing the tree, it's almost certainly maple. IMHO, looks like there's a lot of tearing on the heartwood. Be careful when you turn it

The thin bark almost nails it as a maple and the leaf shape is surely Silver maple if these are correct pictures
