Here are a couple of photos. I had completely forgotten that I used a piano hinge along with a stay to hold the lid. It works well though was a bit of a challenge on the hinge. And yes, the hinge and stay are both bright brass as those were the only ones I could find at the time.

Have you looked at the Rockler Lid-Stay Torsion hinge? Even comes in rustic bronze.
