1987 Millport 1630 CNC Ajax AllinOneDC retrofit Progress pics

Many here are mostly wood CNC guys but I am expanding into some metal work playing too. I had considered doing a small Rong Fu conversion but decided to buy a purpose built machine with old controls and retrofit it. The mechanics and build quality on this machine are unreal. Here are just a few pics showing my latest machine progress. This is a Dynapath Delta 20 to AjaxCNC AllInOneDC controller using Centroid software (and/or Mach as I now own both options) retrofit. Also installing a Hitachi WJ200 VFD. The machine uses 29in/lb nema42 DC Servos and Heidenhain encoders. Even the limit switches have cast iron enclosures! Machine has auto lube and mist/flood systems. Also considering adding a power drawbar for the BT/NMTB30 tooling.

Everyone also wants to know costs:
    Machine was $1800 (stole it)
Cost about $200 to rent a drop-deck trailer and Ram 3500 dually's worth of gas to go get it - 4500lbs!
AllInOneDC Controller and Centroid software was $2399
    Pendant was $745
    PC and monitor was $565
    VFD was $321
Have about $200 in a various other elec components like terminal blocks, 24V power supply, and wire trough, etc
    Everything else was re-use

    Before:

    Current install progress:

Temp mount of new 15" touchscreen and the i3-3227/16GB/128GbSSD computer (4"X4"X1" computer) . Ajax Pendant is on its way - it is magnetic mountable so you can use it by the work.

    Looks slick!

Will you be venturing into creating parts for CNC machines out of metal?

It is definitely on my mind. CNC and 3D printer.

Man yesterday a huge hurdle was crossed - proving the encoders and servos were good! Yahooooo. Here is a jogging video. Anyone who has built or assembled a machine knows this feeling of motion and sigh of relief!

Glad its my shop I am responsible for - I only have to make me happy.

Looking forward to trying/learning some conversational part making as well with this centroid software. That is new to me. All I have done so far is Gcode loading into Mach. The mill world is very different.
