Thread: Scratch Repair?

    Scratch Repair?

These aren't actually scratches per say but sort of grooves. There is no actual break in the finish (or scratch). They are in cherry panel and frame wall paneling in a stairway on a yacht. There are about three, maybe 3-4 inches long and they have a slight depth (or groove) to them.

The steam iron on a damp towel wouldn't work would it? How can I repair these? I'm thinking if I sand and recoat about 3 times I could get some fill and leveling in the grooves. What do you think? I tried Old English and it didn't really do anything, except on a couple nicks. It probably works when the finish is actually scratched. Thank you for any suggestions.

Does the iron and towel technique have to be on wood bare of finish for it to work? Thanks.
