I'm sure my dream shop is not exactly the same as yours, but since I continually read posts where folks are dreaming of a larger shop, I thought it was time to do another shop tour thread. After living in Florida for 40 years, we recently moved to New Mexico. We were just tired of high humidity, the ever growing light pollution that ruined our astronomy hobby, and what the heck - it was a real adventure. We love RVing around the beautiful scenery of the west, and always thought it would be great to live under the wonderfully clear and transparent skies…
The new shop is smaller than the old one. This time the building was nearly the same size, but the new building was divided into three rooms, with the shop portion 36x36. This keeps the heat and air costs far smaller than the old 40x60 shop that was one big room. Like the last time, the shop building is just a steel building. A contractor put it up, and the wife and I finished the inside side. Everything from the old shop made the 1800 mile trip west, including all the old machines and my two dozen home-made shop cabinets. It was far cheaper to move them than to sell and purchase everything again. Besides, a lot of love went into the design and building of the cabinets that make the shop such a pleasure to work in, and they weren't going to be left behind. Many of them are now 30 years old.
