    Redwood Burl Theft

Apparently there are meth addicts stealing burls from giant redwoods and even cutting down a tree to get to a burl in one instance. Here is a link to the story on the New York Times. I don't know how a buyer can be sure he or she is not supporting this practice, but if anyone does please chime in.

It makes me feel sick to read about that sort of stuff. Taking a chainsaw to a thousand-year old tree!

Interesting article but why are they cutting up the burls, for what purpose?

Rockler has come up with a source of redwood burl that has a very interesting back-story http://www.rockler.com/redwood-burl-slab-r2005 and I can attest to the fact that they have been very careful to verify the source

Last I read, they caught the guy who was doing it... they found the burl at a local sawmill and have cleared the sawmill owner of any wrongdoing.
