    Need hinge help

Am installing 2" x 1 1/2" butt hinges on a cabinet I'm building. The doors are to be inset, flush with the face frame. When I close the door, it sort of "springs" open about 1/4". Hinges appear to be mortised flush with the door and the face frame. I can push the door closed flush, but when I let it go, it moves out again. HELP!

    Thanks,
    Greg

Maybe the mortises are a hair too deep. Try putting a thin shim between the hinges and the face frame. Good thin shims are business cards, or a beer or soda can.

If the barrel is inside the mortise, it can put the hinge under tension.

Your door is hitting the frame before it is completely closed, tiny bit of interference.Try the shims.

Or it is the screw heads that are hitting. Maybe they're a size too big, and the head isn't completely seated in the hinge's countersink.
