    I just looked up the weight of a giant redwood which the California State Parks site said could weigh 4,000 tons compared to the 550 tons for the tree referenced at the start of this thread.

    It's still a enormous tree. It’s pretty impressive at street level in Google Earth.

    I was standing under General Sherman a few weeks ago.

    The info at the park said Sherman is the largest by volume, but there's other species of trees wider and taller.

    Those are all impressive, regardless who wins the biggest award! I'm also thinking that the 106 acre aspen grove isn't the biggest one of those. I can think of several in my wanderings that would rival that.

    I saw a photo once of a huge celebrated tree in India, it's branches spread an enormous area. Was in a city square, wish I could find a pic of it.

    I love trees.......

    There was a show (National Geographic Channel) about how the giant redwoods get water to the top and all of the various plants and animals that live in the tree. It was hard to believe what all they found.
