I'm not sure what it is, but I think that it's a turned cup with designs on it. I admire your imagination and hope to see this at the Virginia Symposium.

Charlie, your pyro skills are improving! What are the dimensions of these pieces?

From a search - "The Zia Sun Symbol is featured on the New Mexico flag. The Zia Indians of New Mexico regard the Sun as a sacred symbol. Their symbol, a red circle with groups of rays pointing in four directions, is painted on ceremonial vases, drawn on the ground around campfires, and used to introduce newborns to the Sun."

Hidel, thanks for your comments, yes, I will bring this piece to Virginia symposium for the instant gallery. be sure to look me up, I should be around the table displaying the raffle tickets someplace......Connie (the boss) will have my movements.

John, thanks for your comments, the dimensions of this turning is 5 wide x 6 h. I have not traveled in New Mexico very much, just cutting across from Mesa Verda to St. George. the sun symbol is great, will have to research this area a little more, thanks for the info.

Very creative, I really like the pattern on what looks like a patch of bark. The zig-zag made me think of tractor tires, probably because I grew up driving a tractor quiet a bit.
